You can ask a plant manager what a color change costs and probably hear a number for resin. Even if you can ask the operator who has spent forty minutes waiting for the last streak of red to disappear, you’ll hear something else entirely. The answer is somewhere between the two, and it’s almost always …

Choosing a purging compound is not always as simple as picking the product on the shelf. Blow molding machines run with different materials, temperatures and setups, so the format of the purge can matter too. Granules and emulsions can both be useful, but they are not automatically interchangeable. The better choice depends on the machine, …
How to Choose Between Granule and Emulsion for Blow Molding Line Cleaning Read More »
A purging schedule shouldn’t be based on a simple rule like “run a purge every Friday.” Some lines change colour several times a day. Others run the same resin for weeks. Then a difficult material change comes along and suddenly the machine needs a much deeper clean. So the useful schedule is built around what …
How to Build a Practical Purging Schedule for a Plastics Processing Line Read More »
It’s an interesting thing about production lines. The machine might still be running. Parts are coming out. Orders are being completed. Yet somehow the process isn’t quite as smooth as it was a year ago. Colour changes take longer. Operators spend extra time clearing contamination. Scrap creeps up a little. Nothing dramatic, just enough for …
Why Injection Molding Machines Lose Efficiency Over Time Read More »
Walk into two different moulding facilities running the exact same medical-grade Polypropylene or filled PA66, and you might see two entirely different worlds. Plant A runs smoothly with minimal scrap rates and quick 15-minute colour transitions. Meanwhile, down the road, Plant B is dealing with constant black specks, severe streak contamination, and operators spending hours …
Why Two Plastic Plants Running the Same Resin Can Get Completely Different Results Read More »
A lot of people who work with extruders have tried this. They have a problem with contamination like specks showing up and they think, “Lets just keep running new resin through it for a while.” Sometimes it looks like it is working. The output starts looking cleaner. Things seem to get better. A few hours …
Why Running New Resin Is Not Actually Cleaning Your Extruder Read More »
Walk through a blow molding facility during a changeover and you’ll often see everyone focused on the obvious things. The next resin. The next color. Production schedules. Getting the line running again. All important, of course. But experienced supervisors tend to pay attention to different details. After enough years on the floor, they know that …
What Experienced Blow Molding Supervisors Notice During Changeovers Read More »
Scrap rates are a constant headache in injection molding facilities. Even a small increase in rejected parts can slowly affect material costs, machine efficiency, delivery timelines, and overall production output. In many cases, scrap issues are linked to contamination buildup, poor resin transitions, or residue left inside processing equipment. Problems like black specks, burn marks, …
Reducing Scrap Rates in Injection Molding Operations Read More »
Resin transitions are a normal part of plastic manufacturing, but they also tend to create a lot of downtime if the process is not handled properly. Switching between materials or colors may sound routine, although in reality it can quickly turn into wasted production time, contamination issues, and extra scrap material. This becomes even more …

Color streaking in plastic products is one of those problems that shows up quietly… and then refuses to go away. At first, it looks minor. A few lines, uneven color, maybe a batch issue. But once it starts repeating, it slows everything down. Rejections go up. Operators start adjusting settings again and again. Nothing really …
